Technologies:
Oculus Meta Quest, Virtual Reality, Unity, C#, Firebase, AWS S3
Description:
This project was commissioned to celebrate the official sponsorship of Globant to Formula1. The experience consists in a cooperative VR game where its users take the place of a Formula1's mechanic and they perform a simulation of a race pitstop, thus trying to do it as fast and best as possible. Once the users put on their VR Headsets, the game brings them to a futuristic and amazing race circuit, where they will be in sync with up to 3 players, each one with a specific role. After the team has achieved their tasks, the system will evaluate them and determine how close they were to perform a perfect performance.
In the rapidly evolving era of spatial computing and standalone headsets, the development of a VR game put a lot of possibilities before us. In particular, the brand new Oculus Meta Quest 3 Headset and its Hand and Body Tracking technology allowed us lots of interesting virtual interactions. One of the tricky parts of the project was to push these possibilities to the limit to achieve a fun and entertaining experience. My main role in the team, consisted precisely in that, in defining and developing the interactions of the users during the game. In addition to that, another important factor in which I took part, was to simulate a seamless synchronization between the players by means of a light communication between the headsets. Apart from the development of the VR experience, the project was needed an iPad app which allowed the control of the game, a landing web page where users could register themselves before playing, and a cloud server which generated a video for the user to be shared after their experience.
So far, this project has been displayed in different events, such as The Founders Forum in UK and the Formula1 Fan Festival in Barcelona, and soon to be taken to the Austin F1 Grand Prix. The users that have tried it (being F1 fans or not), have been amazed at the quality of the game and the possibilities that this technology can bring us.
