Pressure Ulcer Detection

Context:
Project "Next steps towards wound analysis, prognosis and diagnosis using deep learning and computer vision" of the Research Group on Media Technologies at La Salle - Universitat Ramon Llull, where I started working as part of an undergraduate research collaboration, being it my final thesis and then as a research assistant, continuing with its development.

Technologies:
    Computer vision, C, Matlab

Description:
The aim of this project was to provide tools in the field of medicine to improve and assist in the diagnosis and treatment of pressure ulcer skin wounds from its images. To do so, different Computer Vision methods were tested to perform segmentation on those images, obtaining information about the different types of tissue that the wound might have. Both traditional and Deep Learning techniques were used, and a database of labeled images was gathered in collaboration with a nearby hospital.
This project allowed me to try out different types of Computer Vision techniques and study its applications in the health field. This also represented my first opportunity to work in a university research team, where I could also collaborate with medical professionals.
